EMC Storage Server Configuration

I reconfigure our EMC storage CX300.

restore to factory configuration.
Change page size form 8KB to 4KB follow EMC docs suggestion about database applications(for oracle ASM).
Increase Read Cache and Write Cache.
Recreate RAID, LUNs etc.

I can configure it by IE only, because the java1.4 plugin can't work under FC4 x86_64 with gcc4 :(

Oracle Metalink Merge to HTML DB

Oracle 10gR2 For Linux Itanium

Wait for it about a month, oracle finally release this version.
Now, i can configure RAC on my Linux Itanium. :)

Update to x86_64

My CPU support EM64T, so i update os to FC4 x86_64. After try some days.I think x86_64 is less stable than i386.
First, everytime i logout from Gnome, i must kill some processes like gam_server, esd etc, otherwise i will not login to Gnome(screen is black, only reboot system).
Second, firefox flash&java plugin didn't work. I search som ugly solution from fedoraforum.
From my practise, i think the main software manufacturer wasn't ready for 64bit :)
But 64bit will apply more and more, we must get ready for it :)

Share my experience about configure Oracle 10gR2 RAC on RedHatAS 3.0.
Part I Hardware prepare
There is my hardware environment

Dell PowerEdge 7250, LangChao of China cx300 storage
Daul Itanium(R) 2 Processor
4G Memory
two Intel pro 1000M net interfaces

I get 600G space from cx300 storage, and check all hardware meet requirement.

Install Fedora Core 4 On Dell Dimension 5150

I just install FC4 on my new Dell Dimension 5150 with ATI DVI out video Card and Dell 1905FP monitor, encountered some problem.

First and biggest problem is cann't start install, when the installation progress to probe hardware, i lost display, the monitor only display a line word "2:Digital Input cannot display this video mode".I try use text mode install, it no help. I stop here about one day :(
Finally, I found a method. It is just add boot option "linux vga=771 text", and when installation prompt input some kernel arguments, i add "vga=771".
My system start to text. :)
Second, FC4 cann't drive my network card, my mainborad is Intel 945G,i resolve it by download a driver tar file from intel, recomplie and install manually.
I must say ATI video driver for linux is so sucker than nvida.but fortunatly, we have YUM. i install my video driver by "yum install ati-fglrx kernel-module-fglrx-'(uname -r)".
My system start to X. :) But my quake4 is slower than under nvidia :(

Custom Linux Install ISO

I have used RedHat Linux from 2002, felt it very powful and stable. But every time install it, i must take 4 discs and so much useless packages install into my boxes. So i make a plan for clean install ISO. It will include below features.

As little as possible
Base RedHat Linux
Easy to update
Include my custom configuration, just like Oracle database install requirement.

Just try my custom iso on we new boxes :)

My deptartment buy two Dell Itanium2 boxes and EMC storage 1.5 TB. I' m busy config these machine these days. I will config Oracle 10g RAC on Dell. It's a big challenge.

HTML DB programming concept

这几天一直在从全局的角度考虑HTML DB程序设计架构，如何才能最大限度的利用HTML DB为我们带来的便利。现总结想法如下：

HTML DB程序设计最基本的组件是页，以页为单位展开，页相当于整个程序的view，后台逻辑由PL/SQL完成，在页中引用。
HTML DB解决了基于web的PL/SQL开发中控制session状态的难题，这样开发人员可以专注于业务逻辑的处理。
使用HTML DB进行开发，一定要熟练掌握HTML，JavaScript，SVG等。

Auto startup 10gR2 on Linux

从8i开始，Linux下数据库自动启动就没搞成过 :(
10gR2了，抱着再试试的想法，今天又试了试，呵呵，成了。
现总结如下
系统配置：
Redhat Linux AS3(Update5)
Oracle Database 10g Release2

首先就像Oracle文档中所述，把/etc/oratab中相应SID的启动标志设为Y，然后
以ORACLE_SID身份执行dbstart和dbshut，看数据库能否正常启动和关闭。
如果上一步能正常启动，则切换到根用户下，保存下面脚本到/etc/init.d目录下
注意更改脚本中相应的变量。然后用根用户执行脚本，看能否启动数据库。

执行chkconfig --add script-name，用ntsysv命令查看脚本是否添加正确。
这个脚本可以正常启动数据库，但是在reboot时不能正常关闭数据库，继续

Configure HTML DB 2.0 On Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2

当我按照Oracle文档安装HTML DB2.0时，配置到marvel.conf时，发现在我的Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2相应目录中找不到这个配置文件。在HTML DB How-to's里发现可以通过拷贝随数据库安装的HTTP Server中的相应文件完成配置。但我的10gR2数据库安装并未安装Companion CD，也没打算装 :).
经过实验，我用如下方法完成了配置:

首先按文档配置，直到上面连结所示的步骤
4.4.2 Oracle HTTP Server 10g Release 1 or Oracle Application Server 10g
我们只需要改变4.4.2小节的1-6步
1. 由于没有marvel.conf配置文件，所以这一步删去
2-4. 直接把需要增加的项加入到http.conf文件中
5. 这一步就是创建DADs标识，这一步可直接在Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Application Server Control中添加，不需要修改配置文件。这里需要说明的是，由于As10gR2已经不用在每个PL/SQL Web Application前面加上pls的前缀，因此我们并不一定按照文档中描述的设定,可以任意设置Location。从这里可以看到Oracle产品的进步亚 :)
6.删去.
后面都照文档就可以了，要注意，如果你更改了Location，则访问时要注意修改相应的链接。

从开始工作到现在，一直在学习、使用Oracle产品，从DB到AS，也做了一些项目开发，总结下来，个人认为Oracle开发的灵魂仍是PL/SQL，但在PL/SQL的开发中，Web页面的生成总感觉不太顺手，所幸现在有了HTML DB这样的好产品，因此申请此blog，与所有开发、学习者共享自己在使用HTML DB和Oracle数据库中一些心得 :)
